Our division is currently working on one Cycle 4 (2009-2012) Alberta Initiative for Student Improvement (AISI) project. Our project, Enhancing Middle Years Learning, continues to build on the accomplishments of the first three cycles. Characterized by collaborative inquiry, it emphasizes innovation and research, extends what has been learned based on in-depth analysis of project outcomes, enhances professional practice, focuses professional development, and expands knowledge sharing and dissemination. Our Enhancing Middle Years Learning project recognizes the strengths and competencies of the teachers in this division and builds on these strengths to improve student achievement. This project enhances student learning experiences through assessment for learning strategies, inquiry based learning, and critical and creative thinking. Student experiences are measured through a number of data sources including LCSD Assessments, surveys, focus groups and school wide Data Teams.
Follow up and support will be implemented through Professional Learning Teams, CIF Action Plans, Instructional Coaching and a VP Posse (Vice Principal Professional Learning Community.) In year one this project focuses heavily on the implementation of renewed Saskatchewan Curriculum, Instructional Support, development and implementation of LCSD Assessments, and the introduction of critical and creative thinking processes. Data teams will begin at each school with year two focus on Data Team Training and Analysis. Professional Learning is supported through a wide variety of professional development workshops, in-services, video conferences and meetings.
